Funding for 2015 of $507,429 is available in account 10569-401-200: 54645 under the 2015 Facilities Management Capital Budget Project 9 “Implement Sustainability Plan”. Funding for 2016 of $304,611 will be included in the Requested Capital Budget for Facilities Management.

Body
WHEREAS, the City of Madison has a longstanding commitment to sustainability, is a signatory on the Mayors Climate Protect Agreement, has adopted the Natural Step, and has prepared a Climate Protection Plan; and

WHEREAS, starting in 2010, the City of Madison administered the Green Madison Program, which has completed hundreds of residential energy efficiency retrofits, saving over 51,174.92 kWh, 66,217.15 Therms and $3,491.71 in heating oil; and

WHEREAS, the City has conducted multiple energy efficiency projects on its own buildings, achieving annual savings of 807,825 kWh, 53,370 Therms; and

WHEREAS, the City of Madison adopted "The Madison Sustainability Plan: Fostering Environmental, Economic and Social Resilience," in May of 2012; and

WHEREAS, the Common Council authorized the Mayor to become an Inaugural Signatory of the Resilient Communities for America Agreement in May of 2013; and

WHEREAS, the City's Sustainability Plan sets a goal of reducing overall energy consumption by 50% by 2030 (kWh and Therms per square foot or equivalent unit of measure) in the public and private sectors (using 2008 baseline data); and

WHEREAS, the Common Council authorized staff to compete in the Georgetown University Energy Prize, which challenges local governments with populations between 5,000 and 250,000 to reduce their municipal and residential electric and natural gas use.
