Title
Authorizing the City of Madison to accept ownership from the State of Wisconsin of three art installations located in the W. Beltline Frontage Road and the Verona Road Frontage Road public rights-of-way.
Body
WHEREAS, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (“WisDOT”) commissioned local professional artists and volunteer community members to create and install three art installation projects (“Projects”) as part of the Verona Road construction project; and
WHEREAS, the Projects are located within the public rights-of-way of the W. Beltline Frontage Road and the Verona Road Frontage Road in the City of Madison (“City”) as depicted on attached on Exhibit A; and
WHEREAS, the three Projects were completed in 2015 and include 1) a sculptural platform by Reginald Baylor Studio entitled The Light Box, which is described and illustrated on attached Exhibit B; 2) four mosaic murals by Marcia Yapp entitled Abundance, as described and illustrated on attached Exhibit C; and 3) five mosaics, collectively entitled Feed the Dream, as described and illustrated on attached Exhibit D; and
WHEREAS, the City’s Engineering and Traffic Engineering Divisions approved of the placement and design of the Projects and verified that the Projects were completed as commissioned; and
WHEREAS, WisDOT wishes to transfer ownership and maintenance of the Projects to the City and the City agrees to accept said transfer.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Common Council of the City of Madison authorizes the acceptance of ownership and maintenance from the State of Wisconsin of three public art installation projects located within the public rights-of-way of the W. Beltline Frontage Road and the Verona Road Frontage Road, located in the City of Madison, the locations of which are depicted on the attached Exhibit A and the descriptions and illustrations of which are shown on attached Exhibits B, C and D; subject to the following condition...
