Title
Recognizing and commending Audrey Short on her retirement after more than 34 years of dedicated service as a city employee.
Body
WHEREAS, Audrey started with the City of Madison in 1974 making a positive impact on her fellow Madisonians while working at City Welfare; and
WHEREAS, Audrey started permanent employment in 1977 in Housing Operations as a Section 8 Housing Specialist, working her way up Program Manager where she was valued for her generous spirit, calm demeanor and practical common sense; and
WHEREAS, Audrey came to her final municipal resting place in 1997 as a Grants Administrator in the Community Development Block Grant Office where she worked with many non-profit agencies guiding them through the maze of federal bureaucracy without losing her sense of humor; and
WHEREAS, Audrey left her mark on several community development projects such as the construction of Warner Park Community Recreation Center, Operation Fresh Start's home construction projects, Housing Initiatives' and Movin' Out's many housing projects for homeless persons and those with disabilities; Audrey also helped provide federal funds for bricks and mortar projects at nearly every neighborhood and community center in Madison; and
WHEREAS, Audrey made everyone her friend, earning the respect of all those with whom she worked; and
WHEREAS, Audrey felt responsible for keeping all her co-workers addicted to chocolate by making sure that her candy dish was never empty;
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Mayor and Common Council wish her a magnificent retirement.
