Fiscal Note
The proposed resolution appoints Devine Nzegwu to fill the vacant alder position for District 1 and to serve until the spring 2027 election. Funding for the position is available in the Common Council 2026 Adopted Operating Budget and is included in the 2027 Operating Budget Request. No appropriation is required
Title
Appointing Devine Nzegwu as alder for District 1 to serve until the Spring 2027 election.
Body
WHEREAS, the Common Council Executive Committee met on September 1, 2026, to make a recommendation on the appointment of an alder for District 1 according to the procedures outlined in Madison General Ordinance 2.03; and,
WHEREAS, the Common Council Executive Committee interviewed the applicants; and,
WHEREAS, the Common Council Executive Committee recommends that Devine Nzegwu be appointed to fill the vacant District 1 alder seat; and,
WHEREAS, the Common Council shall appoint and confirm the recommended candidate, or decline to fill the seat, per MGO 2.03(7);
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that Devine Nzegwu is hereby appointed to the position of alder for District 1 effective immediately, to serve until an election is held in the spring of 2027 and a qualified District 1 alder is elected and sworn-in on April 20, 2027.
