Title
Authorizing the Madison Equal Opportunities Commission to enter into a purchase of service contract with the Metropolitan Milwaukee Fair Housing Center to provide fair housing testing services, through its satellite office, the Fair Housing Center of Greater Madison.
Body
WHEREAS, the denial of housing in Madison resulting from discrimination prohibited by the Equal Opportunities Ordinance continues to be a significant barrier to equal enjoyment of life in our community; and
WHEREAS, the subtle nature of discrimination may make it difficult to prove; and
WHEREAS, the 2005 budget of the Department of Civil Rights' Equal Opportunities Commission (EOC) contains $30,000 for fair housing testing services; and
WHEREAS, the EOC has selected the Metropolitan Milwaukee Fair Housing Center to provide these services through its Madison satellite office, the Fair Housing Center of Greater Madison, in cases involving alleged violations of the housing section of the Equal Opportunities Ordinance, Section 3.23(4) Madison General Ordinances;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Madison Equal Opportunities Commission is authorized to enter into a purchase of service agreement not to exceed $30,000 with the Metropolitan Milwaukee Fair Housing Center to provide testing services in housing cases occurring within the City limits of Madison for a period of one year.
