Approving roadway geometry for the construction of S High Point Rd from Mid Point Meadows Plat to Raymond Rd. (District 1, District 7)
Body
WHEREAS, The City of Madison and the Wisconsin Department of Transportation have proposed a project to construct S High Point Road from Mid Point Meadows Plat to Raymond Rd; and
WHEREAS, the City secured Federal Funds through the Surface Transportation Block Grants Program for construction of S High Point Rd; and,
WHEREAS, the City of Madison Common Council adopted RES-24-00630, File ID 85460 on October 29, 2024 authorizing the Mayor and the City Clerk to execute an agreement with MSA Professional Services, Inc. for design engineering services for the construction of S High Point Rd; and,
WHEREAS, the City of Madison Common Council adopted RES-24-00672, File ID 85818 on November 26, 2024, authorizing the Mayor and City Clerk to execute a State/Municipal agreement with the State of Wisconsin Department of Transportation for State review service for preliminary engineering for S High Point Rd; and,
WHEREAS, the City has held one public information meeting to obtain input from the community regarding the design. The City has also met with area residents to obtain input.
WHEREAS, the project design staff have coordinated with the adjacent construction in the Midpoint Meadows Plat which helped inform the design of the cross section.
WHEREAS, The City of Madison has completed preliminary design of the project, which includes construction of S High Point Road to a three-lane urban section, a 10-foot wide multi-use path and 5 foot wide sidewalk; and that the proposed designs will adequately serve the area traffic projections through the design year of 2050. The intersection of Raymond Rd and S High Point Rd is proposed to be reconstructed with a roundabout.
