Fiscal Note

As stated in the Employment Agreement between the City of Madison and John Patterson, the Police Chief's salary will be based on an annualized rate of $204,000. Funding for this position is available in the Madison Police Department's 2025 Adopted Operating Budget.

Recognizing the appointment of John Patterson and approving the terms and conditions of employment for John Patterson as City of Madison Police Chief.

 

Body

Whereas, the Police and Fire Commission selected and appointed John Patterson to the position of Chief of Police; and

 

Whereas, John Patterson has twenty-seven years of continuous employment with the City of Madison; and

 

Whereas, the City has standardly applied many of the terms and conditions of employment to the Police Chief without a formal MOU articulating these terms; and

 

Whereas, the City allows for renegotiation of Compensation Group 21 terms and conditions of employment on a five year schedule;

 

Whereas, the parties have reached an accord on the terms and conditions of employment between the City and Chief Patterson;

 

NOW THEREFORE, be resolved that John Patterson’s appointment to the position of Chief of police is recognized by the Council, the terms and conditions of employment are approved by Council, and the Mayor and City Clerk are authorized to execute the Memorandum of Understanding between the City and John Patterson.
