Derek Johnson is an educator and mentor for students, currently working as the Director of Freshman Admissions at Edgewood College, and also the manager and lead mentor for Phredum Mentoring, aimed at developing new resources for connecting youth and their families to positive community resources and educational opportunities. Derek founded the organization Generation SPOKEN! which seeks to help young people express themselves through the art of spoken poetry. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater with a BS in Sociology and Criminal Justice and then was awarded an MA in Education from Edgewood College. As an undergraduate at UW-Whitewater, Derek was a Ronald E. McNair Post Baccalaureate Scholar, and conducted research on the role of positive role models for African American males.  He has many awards for his professional service, and serves as a board member of the Goodman Community Center and Families and Schools Together (FAST) program.  He was recently featured on the cover of Capital City Hues.
