Declaring July 2023 as "Parks and Recreation Month" in the City of Madison and recognizing the benefits that Madison parks provide for active and passive recreational opportunities.
Body
WHEREAS, the City of Madison has nearly 6,000 acres devoted to parks and open space for recreational activities that enhance the physical health and mental well-being of the community; and,
WHEREAS, the City of Madison Parks Division collaborates with organizations such as the Madison Metropolitan School District / Madison School Community Recreation, among others to promote participation in recreation programs to build self-esteem and provide positive and constructive alternatives to anti-social behavior; and,
WHEREAS, the City of Madison Parks Division encourages both active and passive recreational opportunities and its open spaces enhance the desirability of the community as a location for business, industry and residential housing; and,
WHEREAS, the City of Madison recognizes that its parks, and the recreational opportunities they provide, stimulate tourism revenues and the economic development of both our city and surrounding communities; and,
WHEREAS, parks and open space are vital to the appearance and livability of communities, protect our air and water, and balance our ecosystem, as well as provide great recreational opportunities for all to enjoy; and,
WHEREAS, Madison park activities occurring in July can be found at: https://www.cityofmadison.com/parks/events/parkrecmonth.cfm; and,
WHEREAS, it is the right of everyone regardless of age, race, color, religion, gender, national origin or ability to enjoy our many parks and open spaces and to participate in active and passive recreation programs and activities,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City of Madison declares July 2023 as "Parks and Recreation Month" in the City of Madison; and,
