Proclaiming April 18 and 25, 2009 Earth Day Clean-up Days and endorsing and encouraging citizen participation in the clean-up events at City of Madison Parks.  (All AD's)
Body
In the 1960's there was strong citizen support for the environment that led to the establishment of Earth Day on April 22, 1970 focusing on environmental stewardship.  Citizens in the City of Madison have had a long-standing tradition of expressing their civic pride by helping out with environmental cleanup projects.

The City of Madison Parks Division and the Madison Board of Park Commissioners recognize there has been substantial citizen support for the parks system in the past and encourages future support by citizens.  They also recognize that the Parks Divison has received substantial support from many of the city's Neighborhood Associations and Friends of various parks groups, volunteering hundreds of hours to clean up city parks.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED That the Mayor and the Common Council hereby proclaim April 18 and 25, 2009 as the City of Madison Parks Division's Earth Day Clean-up Celebration Days and encourage citizen participation in cleanup events in city parklands.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED That the City of Madison Parks Division, the Mayor, and Common Council extend their gratitude for the help and support provided by the various neighborhood associations, friends' groups and citizens of Madison in their cleanup efforts in city parks throughout the year.
