Title
Authorizing Mayor Dave Cieslewicz and Chief Noble Wray to accept a highway safety grant up to $21,000 from Safe Communities for 'Tween Safety Restraint Initiative activities, i.e., informational contacts and overtime enforcement scheduled for October through December 2007.
Body
WHEREAS, Safe Communities periodically provides funds to local police agencies for overtime activities designed to build better community relationships with law enforcement through information dissemination and presentation activities along with enforcement of traffic violations and,
WHEREAS, this year Safe Communities has offered a total of up to $21,000 specifically to contribute to decreasing the number of 'Tween (children 8-15 years-of-age) deaths and/or injuries due to crashes, enable safer conditions for 'Tweens in the Lakepoint, Wexford, Vera Court, and Darbo communities, and improve relationships between community members and law enforcement in these neighborhoods and,
WHEREAS, the funds enable the Police to coordinate additional traffic enforcement activities and enable trust-building activities between community members and law enforcement that would otherwise not be provided.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Mayor and Chief of Police are authorized to accept the traffic safety grant totaling up to $21,000 from the Safe Communities, Madison, WI.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that these funds be used for funding the community law enforcement officer's additional overtime patrols, informational contacts, car restraint voucher dissemination, and safety presentations in the Vera Court, Darbo, Wexford, and Lakepoint neighborhoods.
BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED, that the Comptroller and the Police Department are authorized to establish and/or maintain accounts as required for the administration of the grant funds.
