Fiscal Note
Costs related to adding a referendum question to the 2006 spring primary or general election are estimated at $16,200, which includes $15,200 for voting machine coding and $1,000 for a pro-rata share of paper ballot costs. If the referendum question is taken to a special election, total costs are estimated at $110,400. This amount includes the wages of election officials ($62,150), full payment for paper ballots ($23,000), coding of election machines ($15,200), moving expenses ($4,125), postage and mailings ($2,450), publication costs ($1,550), reproduction ($350), and other miscellaneous expenses ($1,575). In either case, funding for this referendum question has not been provided for in the 2006 Adopted Budget, and would require a supplemental appropriation from the Contingent Reserve.
