Authorizing the City Forester to apply for up to $50,000 in financial assistance from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources to defray costs of tree damage caused by the storms of June 16 - 18, 2014.
Body
WHEREAS, on June 20, 2014, in the wake of the severe storms of June 16-18, 2014, Wisconsin Governor Walker declared that a State of Emergency exists in Dane County; and,
WHEREAS, this declaration makes Dane County communities eligible for disaster relief funding from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources Urban Forestry program to defray the costs of removing and replacing trees downed by the storms; and,
WHEREAS, the City of Madison sustained significant damage, losing 59 trees in City parks and 323 street trees to the storms; and,
WHEREAS, the total cost of removing and replanting these trees is yet to be fully determined, but will total many thousands of dollars;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Madison Common Council authorizes the City Forester to apply for up to $50,000 in financial assistance from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources to cover partial costs of catastrophic storm damage to City of Madison trees; and,
BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED, that the Common Council authorizes the City Forester to apply to the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources for financial assistance under s. 20.370, Wis. Stats., Chapter NR 47, Wis. Admin Code; to enter into a contract for granted funds; and to submit required reports.
