The proposed resolution authorizes the Parks Division to apply for, and accept if awarded, grant funding from the State of Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources Recreational Trails Program for up to $100,000. The grant will fund a portion of the cost of improvements for the Madison LakeWay Project (Munis #17362) and requires a 20% match of $20,000. Match funding is available in the 2026 Adopted Parks Division Capital Budget in the Madison LakeWay Project. If awarded, the Parks Division's Capital Budget will be amended to reflect the award. No additional appropriation is required.

WHEREAS, the State of Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources aims to fund projects through the Recreational Trails Program that include the development and rehabilitation of trailside and trailhead facilities and trail linkages; and,
WHEREAS, the Lake Monona Waterfront Master Plan adopted by the Common Council on April 16, 2024 (Legislative File #81653) outlines improvements to the John Nolen Drive causeway that maximizes park space and creates a lakeside linear park that includes the development and rehabilitation of trailside facilities along the Capitol City Trail, as described as an eligible project in the application (the “Project”); and,
WHEREAS, the maximum award for the Recreational Trails Grant Program 2026 is $100,000 and the awardee is required to provide a twenty-percent match, which will be met by this Project; and,
