Body
Monona Terrace works hand-in-hand with the City of Madison as an involved supporter of sustainable efforts and environmentally-responsible operations. Monona Terrace is the first convention center to receive silver level certification under the U.S. Green Building CouncilĀ“s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design for Existing Buildings (LEED - EB) rating system. LEED promotes a whole-building approach to sustainability by recognizing performance in five key areas of human and environmental health: sustainable site development, water savings, energy and atmosphere, materials and resources, and indoor environmental quality.


Monona Terrace was certified as a LEED building in 2007 and is required to recertify every five years.


WHEREAS, the Monona Terrace 2012 Capital Budget has funding to cover this cost; and

WHEREAS, Leonardo Academy is the recognized leader in both LEED O&M certification projects and the expectations of the United State Green Building Council (USGBC); and

WHEREAS, Monona Terrace has achieved significant national recognition for becoming LEED certified; and

WHEREAS, Monona Terrace has achieved significant cost savings due to the implementation of LEED principles; and

WHEREAS, Monona Terrace is recognized nationally for its sustainability efforts within the Convention Center industry; and

WHEREAS, Monona Terrace has hosted many conferences and conventions for organizations that are environmentally sensitive; and
