Fiscal Note
The proposed resolution amends an existing contract with Strand Associates, Inc for blanket structural engineering and consulting services used on an as-needed basis on various projects when the City is in need of structural expertise that is not available in-house. The original contract was for a term of July 2024 to June 2027 in a total amount not to exceed $289,000 over the life of the contract. The proposed amendment increases the existing contract by $300,000, for a total amount not to exceed $589,000 and extends the term of the contract to December 31, 2027. The contracted services will be used on various different construction projects as needed, and the actual cost of services will be funded by individual projects at the time services are performed. If needed, City Engineering will request a mid-year appropriation to allocate funds intra-agency to any necessary projects. Funding for the contract amount in 2027 will be requested during the 2027 Capital Budget development process. At this time, no additional appropriation is required.

The City of Madison issued a Request for Proposals for Structural Engineering Services in 2024. The City received proposals, evaluated and recommended Strand Associates, Inc. for award. The City entered into an agreement with Strand in June 2024. The terms for the agreement included language for extension up to 3 years.
The contract has been successful in providing structural design services for a number of public works projects throughout the City and expenditures have neared its authorized contracted amount. The City Engineer recommends that the contract amount be increased by $300,000 and extend the term by six months to December 31, 2027.
