Body
WHEREAS, Jessica Bullen was killed in a biking accident on June 30, 2005, and
WHEREAS, her friends, family, and admirers have worked together as volunteers to create the Jessica Bullen Orchard and Quiet Garden at 320 Koster Street at the intersection of Bram and Koster Streets on Madison's South Side, and;
WHEREAS, Jess was a biking, gardening and community activist in the Madison area, had recently finished her graduate work in the Urban and Regional Planning Department at UW-Madison and received the Outstanding Student of the Year award, and
WHEREAS, as busy as she was, she found time to be the treasurer of the Quann Community Garden, be active in biking issues and volunteer for the East Isthmus Neighborhoods Planning Council, and;
WHEREAS, she was loved and admired by her friends, partner, family, and colleagues, and;
WHEREAS, when completed, the garden will be a beautiful companion to the nearby Quann Community Garden that Jessica loved so much and will include a council ring, rain garden, fruit trees, and a turtle sculpture in her honor,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the city-owned site at 320 Koster Street be dedicated in honor of Jessica Bullen and that the site be named the "Jessica Bullen Orchard and Quiet Garden".
