Fiscal Note
The proposed resolution authorizes the City of Madison’s application to the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) for a Grant to Local Arts Agencies for Subgranting. The grant amount is $500,000 for fiscal year 2022. No City appropriation is required to apply for the proposed grant. A separate resolution amending the Planning Division’s operating budget will be proposed if the grant is awarded to the City of Madison.

WHEREAS, to support a full creative life for all, the Madison Arts Commission (MAC) commits to championing policies and practices of cultural equity that empower a just, inclusive, equitable city; and
WHEREAS,, the COVID19 pandemic caused sudden and overwhelming losses of income for cultural sector workers and a steep decline in revenue opportunities for the sector as a whole; and
WHEREAS, a large infusion of grant funding will help support creative workers and lead to economic recovery from COVID-19.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, the Madison Common Council supports the application by the City of Madison to the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) for a Grant to Local Arts Agencies for Subgranting to be used to help fund MAC Arts Grants and authorizes the Mayor and City Clerk to enter into a contract with the NEA to receive and use these funds, should they be awarded, and to sign all documents related to receiving the grant.
