Authorizing the Madison Department of Public Health to accept up to $4000 from the State of Wisconsin Department of Health and Family Services (DHFS) Division of Public Health's Children with Special Health Care Needs (CSHCN) program for the period January1, 2005 through December 31, 2005 and authorizing the Mayor and City Clerk to sign the contract for the City.
Body
WHEREAS, childhood obesity has been identified as a nation-wide health issue; and
 
WHEREAS, 2001 Pediatric Nutrition Surveillance data for children enrolled in the Madison Department of Public Health 's WIC program indicate that 27% of 2-5 year olds were overweight; and
 
WHEREAS, childhood obesity may exist as a primary special health care need and require collaboration among public health and health care professionals; and
 
WHEREAS, the DHFS has provided funds for the development of a plan to identify what the Madison Department of Public Health's role will be in serving children with obesity and their families;
 
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Madison Department of Public Health is authorized to accept up to $4000 from the State of Wisconsin Division of Public Health's CSHCN program for the period January 1, 2005 through December 31, 2005 and the Mayor and City Clerk are authorized to sign a contract on behalf of the City.
