Board of Park Commissioners proclaiming June 1, 2025 as Nature Everywhere Day in Madison

WHEREAS, the City of Madison is deeply committed to supporting the health and well-being of children, families and the natural world; and
WHEREAS, a regular connection to nature helps make children healthier, happier, more successful in school, and better stewards of the environment; and
WHEREAS, starting in 2016, the City of Madison began collaborating with Public Health Madison and Dane County, Madison Metropolitan School District, Aldo Leopold Nature Center, Nature Net, Madison Children’s Museum, Madison School and Community Recreation, and other nature-based partners in the Madison Region to participate in the national Nature Everywhere Communities initiative to increase equitable access to the benefits of nature everywhere children live, learn and play; and
WHEREAS, the State of Wisconsin Outdoor Heritage Resolution (AJR27) recognizes that every child in Wisconsin should have opportunities to explore and connect with the state’s natural spaces and wild places; and
WHEREAS, the Parks Division is committed to connecting children to nature through nature play spaces, Parks Alive, and outdoor recreation opportunities; and
WHEREAS, the Children & Nature Network and the National League of Cities recognizes Madison’s success in connecting children to nature and wants to celebrate and promote Madison’s wide range of opportunities for outdoor recreation, learning and play with the Madison community;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City of Madison Board of Park Commissioners, does hereby proclaim June 1, 2025 to be NATURE EVERYWHERE DAY in the City of Madison and encourage that the entire community participate in the many nature-based activities planned across the city.
