Title
Authorizing the Mayor, City Clerk and Chief of Police to accept a grant from Dane County Emergency Management in the amount of $9,625 and to utilize these funds in support of the Citizen Corps Program.
Body
WHEREAS, Dane County Emergency Management has received funds from the Federal Government in support of a Citizen Corps Program; and,
WHEREAS, $9,625 of these funds have been allocated to the Madison Police Department (MPD) for citizen corps program purposes; and,
WHEREAS, the program includes recruiting and training civilian volunteers through the MPD so that they develop a working knowledge of the functions of police within the City of Madison; and,
WHEREAS, upon successful completion of the program, the citizen corps volunteer would be prepared to assist the MPD with large-scale events, emergency or disaster response, public presentations, and fill the role of goodwill ambassadors in their neighborhoods; and,
WHEREAS, the citizen corps volunteer would also be prepared to share their knowledge with civic organizations, in school settings, at neighborhood gatherings, and in various other settings; and,
WHEREAS, the MPD does not currently have sufficient civilian staff to coordinate this initiative and to provide the information requested; and,
WHEREAS, the MPD does not maintain extra equipment in order to provide these presentations to the community.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Mayor and Chief of Police are authorized to accept a grant of $9,625 (acct # SG50-73350-712520) from Dane County to support this project.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Madison Police Department (MPD) is authorized to spend the grant funds in accordance with the grant application, with modifications upon appropriate approvals from Dane County Emergency Management, as follows:
