Fiscal Note
The proposed resolution increases the pay rate for the hourly classification of Consultant. This job classification currently has a pay rate or $25-$55/hour. This rate has not been adjusted for cost of living adjustments (COLA) and other pay increases since it was created in 2018. The resolution would increase the rate to $30-$70/hr. The purpose of the increase is to provide agencies with flexibility in covering higher-level vacancies by aligning with professional comp group 18 salaries. The resolution also allows for hourly Consultant positions to be eligible for the same COLA increases as permanent employees. The actual rate for an hourly Consultant would be determined by the hiring agency and HR Director (or designee) based on the work assignment.
In 2024, there were 6 employees in the hourly Consultant classification. The hourly rate ranged from $25-$55/hr, with an average of $43/hr. Total hourly wages was approximately $89,400. In 2023, there were 14 employees in the hourly Consultant classification. The average hourly wage was $45/hr, with total wages of approximately $144,500. Agencies would be expected to cover the cost of hourly wages within their adopted budget. Actual expenditures will be monitored through the biannual budget projection process.
