Recognizing the Mad-City Ski Team for winning the 2006 Division 1 Show Ski National Championship.
Body
WHEREAS, the Mad-City Ski Team is a community non-profit organization which over time has featured members from Madison; and

WHEREAS, the Mad-City Ski Team provides free community entertainment each Sunday during the summer at 6 p.m. at Law Park in Madison on Lake Monona, where all Madison residents are welcome as spectators; and

WHEREAS, the Mad-City Ski Team provides valuable community services to all members of the community which provide the opportunity to enjoy our lakes, including free community learn to ski days, disabled water sports days, and a free learn to ski day for children of service men and women overseas, and earned the 2004 Community Support Award from Madison School and Community Recreation (MSCR) for their community programs; and

WHEREAS, the Mad-City Ski Team was named the 2004 USA Waterski Team of the Year and this year, facing the strongest teams in the nation, the Mad-City Ski Team capped off their phenomenal summer in the finest fashion imaginable by winning the 31st Annual Division 1 Show Ski National Championship crown for the second time in three years; and

WHEREAS, in winning the championship the team earned top scores for Showmanship, Jump and Pick-Up Boats, Wisconsin State Champion Ann Wittenberg had her best finish ever at the national competition finishing fourth in the swivel ski competition, and Kristen Heilman claimed the Willa Cook award, given to the top female skier in the tournament; and

WHEREAS, this accomplishment honors the lakes, the team, and our quality of life and underscores why we in Madison value our lakes, and as a community have become stewards of the lake,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Mayor and members of the Common Council hereby congratulate and recognize the Mad-City Ski Team for its outstanding accomplishments in winning the ...
