Title
Approving the Request from City Engineering to Complete Storm Sewer Repairs at Nakoma Park
Body
City Engineering is requesting access to connect the existing storm sewer in Nakoma Park to proposed storm sewer main. The proposed plan intends to replace a failing storm sewer main crossing Nakoma Rd and Manitou Way, and the larger sewer will provide increased capacity for conveyance of stormwater discharging from the Nakoma Park storm sewer. The storm box culvert near the Cherokee Dr and Nakoma Rd intersection is deteriorating and must be replaced for public safety. The project will ultimately help resolve flooding issues occurring within and adjacent to the park.
Work within the park will occur adjacent to the Cherokee Dr terrace right-of-way, near the Skating Rink Hose Shed, and is intended to have little impact on the park.
Due to the proximity to the school, school schedules, the anticipated project duration, and traffic control requirements, timing of review approvals are critical to bid this work at the same time as the proposed Nakoma Rd sidewalk project. Engineering is seeking to bid the project in late March. The attached materials describe the anticipated scope of work within the park. Information related to the project will be available and updated at https://www.cityofmadison.com/engineering/projects/nakoma-road-sidewalk-2025.
