Title

Request for Approval of the proposed improvements associated with the John Nolen Drive Engineering Project within Law Park and Olin Park. (District 4, District 13)

Body

John Nolen Drive Project Overview:

-                     Full Reconstruction of John Nolen Drive Causeway from E Lakeside St to S Broom St, includes replacement of all causeway bridges, new bike-ped bridges, and reconstruction of Lake Monona Shoreline.

-                     Reconstruct Capital City Trail along Law Park to an 18-ft wide asphalt path with bike-ped separation (similar to existing Cap City Trail closer to Monona Terrace). Shoreline revetment reconstruction along Lake Monona Shoreline through Law Park and entire causeway. Multiple tree removals along Law Park Shoreline due to revetment reconstruction work, preserving desirable species where possible. Working closely with Parks and Forestry. The John Nolen Drive project will include a substantial number of new tree plantings, along the Causeway and Law Park areas, including terrace support systems (with a stormwater component) and soil amendments for future tree plantings.

-                     Reconstruct Capital City Trail through Olin Park to an 18-ft wide asphalt path with bike-ped separation, in coordination with future Olin Park designs.

-                     Working closely with Madison LakeWay and Sasaki’s design team.

-                     Construction Fall 2025 - Summer 2027.

This item is being presented to the Board of Parks Commission for ‘approval’ of the proposed improvements within Law Park and Olin Park, including the impacts to existing trees and extensive tree plantings.
