Declaring July 2025 as "Park and Recreation Month" in the City of Madison and recognizing the benefits that Madison parks provide for recreational opportunities and preservation of public lands.
Body
WHEREAS, the City of Madison has nearly 6,000 acres devoted to parkland and the Parks Division plays a vital role in the protection of our environment through green infrastructure, maintenance of public lands and preservation of wildlife habitats; and,
WHEREAS, the City of Madison recognizes that its parks help connect people to nature as environmental stewards who advocate for and protect our most precious public resources - our land, water, trees, open spaces and wildlife; and,
WHEREAS, parks and open spaces enhance the physical health and mental well-being of the community, stimulate tourism revenues and the economic development of our city and surrounding communities; and,
WHEREAS, the City of Madison Parks Division collaborates with organizations such as Madison School Community Recreation (MSCR), among others to promote and provide recreational programs and activities that build self-esteem and provide positive and constructive alternatives to anti-social behavior; and,
WHEREAS, park and recreation professionals play a key role in ensuring all community members have equitable access to get active; and,
WHEREAS, Madison park activities occurring in July can be found at: cityofmadison.com/parks/events/national-park-recreation-month; and,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City of Madison Board of Park Commissioners declares July 2025 as "Park and Recreation Month" in the City of Madison; and,
BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED, the City of Madison recognizes the benefits that Madison Parks provide for active and passive recreational opportunities and that parks are essential to quality of life, not only in July during “Park and Recreation Month," but throughout the year.
