WHEREAS the City Traffic Engineering Division has begun the program of installing oversized, overhead traffic signal mast arm mounted street name signs on our arterial streets to improve sign visibility and wayfinding on these major streets; and
WHEREAS the Wisconsin Department of Transportation administers the Traffic Signing and Marking Enhancement Grant program and has approved a project for the City of Madison in the amount of $182,360, of which $136,770 of State grant monies will be matched by $45,590 of City funds, to expand the use of oversize and overhead street name signs on upgraded traffic signal mast arms;
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED That the Traffic Engineering Division be authorized to accept grant monies in the amount of $136,770 from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation for the fabrication and installation of overhead street name signs and supporting hardware at signalized intersections along arterial streets in Madison.
