Authorizing Madison Public Library to accept, and appropriate, a $20,000 gift from Carnegie Corporation of New York in the 2026 Operating Budget.

WHEREAS, Carnegie Corporation of New York announced a gift of $10,000 per Carnegie Library in celebration of the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Indepence, and,
WHEREAS, Madison Public Library's Central and Hawthorne libraries are Carnegie or Carnegie-descended branch libraries, Madison Public Library is receiving $10,000 for each library, and,
WHEREAS, Carnegie Corporation of New York asks that Madison Public Library divide the gift evenly between these libraries; otherwise it is ours to spend as we choose for the benefit of our library and community in commemoration of the 250th anniversary,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that Madison Public Library is authorized to accept a gift of $20,000 from Carnegie Corporation of New York.
BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that Madison Public Library is authorized to appropriate $20,000 to the 2026 Operating Budget.
