$35,750.00 is available for Arts Commission Grants in the Planning Unit operating budget, Account #GN01-54969-222401 as allocated in the fiscal 2005 City budget: $35,000.00 for General Grants and $750.00  carried over from 2004.  In addition, the Madison Arts Commission has been awarded a $5,000 grant from the Wisconsin Arts Board for the Arts Grant program fund to be re-granted to eligible applicants. The total amount available for grant disbursements as recommended by the Arts Commission is $40,750.00.

WHEREAS, The Madison Arts Commission has the authority by ordinance to annually recommend arts grants for approval by the Common Council; and,
 
WHEREAS, the Madison Arts Commission received 38 applications totaling $110,470.00, in requests for arts projects funding by the annual April 1 application deadline; and,
 
WHEREAS, the Madison Arts Commission met on Tuesday, April 26, 2005 to evaluate the applications received for the 2005-06 grant period and is recommending 20 projects for grant awards totaling $40,750.00.
 
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Madison Common Council approves the 2005 grant award recommendations of the Madison Arts Commission and authorizes the Planning Unit Director, The City Comptroller and the City Attorney to execute the agreements on behalf of the City of Madison to effectuate said grants.
