The proposed resolution amends the Public Health 2024 operating budget to accept $75,000 from the National Center for Fatality Review and Prevention (NCFRP) for the Building Capacity in Dane County's Fetal and Infant Mortality Review (FIMR) project. There is no impact on the levy.

Amending the Public Health Budget to Accept Funds from the National Center for Fatality Review and Prevention (NCFRP) for "Building Capacity in Dane County's FIMR"
Body
WHEREAS, Public Health Madison and Dane County (PHMDC) proposes the acceptance of $75,000 from the National Center for Fatality Review and Prevention for the project “Building Capacity in Dane County’s FIMR; and
WHEREAS, the Fetal and Infant Mortality Review (FIMR) process in a crucial step in preventing future fetal and infant loss and address the racial disparities seen in birth outcomes; and
WHEREAS, a multidisciplinary team reviewing all cases of fetal and infant loss in the county allows systems-level actions to be identified and implemented to prevent future loss; and
WHEREAS, the NCFRP, the national organization overseeing fatality prevention, awarded PHMDC $75,000 to continue their established work of increasing FIMR participation among Black and Hispanic people with lived experience of infant loss, implement a process to elevate community voice in the FIMR process, and build connectedness among FIMR participants; and
WHEREAS, the Intergovernmental Agreement creating the joint City-County health department requires approval of the City Council for a new grant of over $50,000.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Common Council of the City of Madison authorizes the Director of Public Health, or their designee, to sign the agreement, accept and expend the funding, and amend the 2024 Public Health Budget by $75,000.
