$21,000 in Federal CDBG funds is available within the Acquisition Rehab Fund to cover the costs of rehab and accessibility improvements to the playgrounds at 614 Vera Court and 1917 Lake Point Drive.

VCNC manages and operates the Vera Court Neighborhood Center at 614 Vera Court and the Bridge-Lake Point-Waunona Neighborhood Center at 1917 Lake Point Drive. VCNC is planning to install synthetic ground cover at the playgrounds at both centers to make them safe and wheelchair accessible. In addition, it will install a wheelchair accessible asphalt path at Vera Court Neighborhood Center to connect the playground with the parking lot. It will install benches at both centers. Labor for both projects will be performed for the most part by volunteers from the neighborhood in an organized community event.

WHEREAS, the Vera Court Neighborhood Center and the Bridge-Lake Point-Waunona Neighborhood Centers both provide critical focal points where recreational, educational and supportive services can be provided in two of Madison’s low income neighborhoods; and

WHEREAS, the CDBG staff and the CDBG Commission have reviewed this proposal and find that it furthers the goals expressed in the 2005-2009 Five-Year Community and Neighborhood Development Plan and the 2009 Community Action Plan; and

WHEREAS, completion of these projects will improve safety and accessibility and provide an opportunity for neighborhood involvement;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Common Council approve the request of VCNC to make safety and accessibility improvements to the playgrounds at 614 Vera Ct. and 1917 Lake Point Drive and...
