Fiscal Note
These grants will be accounted for in segregated funds (SG30, SG50, and SG63). Matching funds of about $2,660 are included in the Police Department's operating budget and will pay the fringe benefit costs (FICA and WI Retirement Fund) associated with the overtime funded by the grant.

Authorizing the Mayor and Chief of Police to accept three highway safety grants totaling $10,000 from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation to conduct pedestrian and bicycle enforcement and produce two pedestrian educational videos.
Body
WHEREAS, each year the Wisconsin Department of Transportation-BOTS (WIDOT-BOTS) provides funds to local police agencies for overtime for enforcement of traffic violations and other traffic safety related activities; and,
 
WHEREAS, this year WIDOT-BOTS has offered a total of $10,000 specifically for addressing issues surrounding bicycle and pedestrian safety; and,
 
WHEREAS, the awards include $4,000 for Bicycle Enforcement (SG63-51300-712000), $4,000 for Pedestrian Enforcement (SG30-51300-712000) and $2,000 to produce pedestrian educational videos (SG50-56310-712000); and,
 
WHEREAS, the funds enable the Police Department's Traffic and Support Section to coordinate additional traffic enforcement activities that would otherwise not be provided.
 
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Mayor and Chief of Police are authorized to accept the three traffic safety grants totaling $10,000 from WIDOT-BOTS; and,
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that these funds be used for additional overtime patrols and video production; and,
 
BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the Comptroller and the Police Department are authorized to establish and/or maintain accounts as required for the administration of the grant funds.
