Fiscal Note
The proceeds of this grant will be accounted for in a segregated fund (SG50). The grant will be used for continued funding of a 1.0 FTE LTE Management Information Specialist 2 position, overtime, and a consultant for additional technical services. There is no match requirement. No City funds have been budgeted to continue the position after the grant ends.

Authorizing the City of Madison, through the Police Department, to accept an award from the State of Wisconsin Office of Justice Assistance in the amount of $120,000 and to utilize these funds to continue to implement the justice information sharing initiative known as WIJIS.
Body
WHEREAS, the need for law enforcement throughout the State of Wisconsin to share information is critical to the public safety and the prevention of terrorism in a timely manner; and,

WHEREAS, the Office of Justice Assistance has obtained Federal and State funding to create the ability for law enforcement to use technology to more efficiently share critical information with one another; and,

WHEREAS, the Office of Justice Assistance has named this justice information sharing initiative as the "WIJIS" program (Wisconsin Justice Information Sharing); and,

WHEREAS, on March 15, 2005, the Madison Common Council passed resolution #00570 accepting a $200,000 grant from the Office of Justice Assistance for the WIJIS project; and,

WHEREAS, this award provided for the hire of an 1.0 LTE Management Information Specialist 2 position; and,

WHEREAS, since that time this funded position has consolidated the records management systems of 14 Dane County communities with the Madison Police Department's records management system; and,

WHEREAS, law enforcement investigations have been enhanced as the result of the sharing of this records management system information across police departments; and,
