Fiscal Note
The proposed resolution authorizes the City of Madison to accept ownership of the mosaic mural to be installed at the Parks Division's Lakeside Office Boardroom. Installation cost estimates are approximately $10,000 and will be paid for through the Municipal Art Fund (Munis program #65001). No additional City appropriation required.

Body
WHEREAS, Arnold Zweerts taught figure drawing at the Art Institute of Chicago in the 1960s, and in 1975 he moved to Postville, WI where he continued to be an active artist in a variety of media; and

WHEREAS, in 1977 Zweerts created a mosaic mural of a Wisconsin landscape while living in Postville, Wisconsin; and,

WHEREAS, Don and Barbara MacCrimmon, residents of Madison and lifelong friends of Zweerts, bought this mosaic when Zweerts and his wife moved to Oregon; and,

WHEREAS, in July 2022, the MacCrimmon Family hired Mosaic Historian Lillian Sizemore to help find a permanent public home for their beloved mosaic; and,

WHEREAS, on March 31, 2022, Park’s leadership approved the proposed installation design and location of the Zweerts mosaic mural in the entryway of the Parks Division's Office boardroom, which is available for public use; and,

WHEREAS, on November 11, 2024, the Kohler Foundation, Inc. agreed to fund the costs of moving and conserving the mosaic; and

WHEREAS, City Engineering has been partnering with Planning and Parks Division staff to prepare the site; and
