Title

Board of Health for Madison and Dane County Resolution #2024-18 Authorization to Accept NARCAN® from the Wisconsin Department of Health Services for Overdose Education & NARCAN® Distribution

Body

Public Health Madison and Dane County (Public Health) proposes the acceptance of 620 cases of Narcan from the Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) NARCAN® Direct Program for Overdose Education & NARCAN® Distribution.

The DHS NARCAN® Direct program distributes NARCAN® throughout Wisconsin and supports distribution to high need areas of the state, specifically targeting people who use drugs (PWUD) and those people who are most likely to witness an overdose. Public Health applied to serve as a NARCAN® Direct vendor and was awarded 620 cases (14,880 doses) of NARCAN®.

The top priority for use of NARCAN® will be to meet the needs of PWUD and are clients of Public Health’s Syringe Services program. The second priority is to equip and train social networks of PWUD (friends, family, roommates) to use NARCAN®. Finally, NARCAN® will be provided to staff at agencies in high-risk environments where drug use or overdoses are common.

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Board of Health for Madison and Dane County on behalf of Public Health Madison and Dane County authorizes the Director of Public Health, to accept 620 cases of NARCAN® from the Wisconsin Department of Health Services.
