Fiscal Note
This grant will be accounted for in a segregated fund.  Matching funds of about $1,900 are included in the Police Department's operating budget and will pay the fringe benefit costs (FICA and Wis. Retirement Fund) associated with the overtime funded by the grant.

Authorizing the Mayor and Chief of Police to accept a highway safety grant for $7,000 from WI Department of Transportation for safety belt (Click It or Ticket Mobilization) campaign in 2005.
Body
WHEREAS, each year the Wisconsin Department of Transportation-BOTS (WI DOT-BOTS) provides funds to local police agencies for overtime for enforcement of traffic violations; and,
 
WHEREAS, this year WI DOT-BOTS has offered a total of $7,000 specifically for contributing to decreasing the number of deaths and injuries of unrestrained motor vehicle occupants by deploying officers to convey to the community that safety belt and child restraint laws, combined with other traffic laws such as speed and OWI are aggressively enforced; and,
 
WHEREAS, the WI DOT-BOTS has provided this funding to the City of Madison for the past several years; and,
 
WHEREAS, the funds enable the Police Department's Traffic and Support Section to coordinate additional traffic enforcement activities that would otherwise not be provided.
 
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Mayor and Chief of Police are authorized to accept the traffic safety grant totaling $7,000 from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, Bureau of Transportation Safety for the 2005 Click It or Ticket Mobilization campaign.
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that these funds be used for additional overtime related to traffic enforcement activities.
 
BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the Comptroller and the Police Department are authorized to establish and/or maintain accounts as required for the administration of the grant funds.
