AMENDED ALTERNATE - Establishing sustainability goals to guide the development of the plan for the Northeast Neighborhoods.
Body
WHEREAS, the City of Madison adopted its Comprehensive Plan in January of 2006; and
WHEREAS, the City of Madison’s Comprehensive Plan includes a provision that a special area plan or other detailed plan be adopted by the City prior to the City extending services and approving development in peripheral areas lacking such a plan; and
WHEREAS, the City of Madison is preparing a neighborhood development plan for the area known as the Northeast Neighborhoods which generally includes the lands located east of Interstate Highway 39/90/94, north of Interstate Highway 94, west of Thorson Road, and south of existing Lien Road and the Village at Autumn Lake plat, and approximately 1/2 mile north of and a proposed extension of Lien Road east to Thorson Road; and
WHEREAS, the Comprehensive Plan identifies the lands within the Northeast Neighborhoods planning area as planned near-term City of Madison expansion and future urban development areas; and
WHEREAS, the Northeast Neighborhoods Neighborhood Development Plan will strive to achieve the goals and objectives of the Comprehensive Plan for new neighborhoods; and
WHEREAS, the Comprehensive Plan includes a goal calling for Madison to grow and develop in a sustainable way that will protect the high quality natural environment, promote energy efficiency and conservation of natural resources and create a built environment that is adaptable to future changes in conditions; and
WHEREAS, the City has adopted “Building a Green Capital City: A Blueprint for Madison’s Sustainable Design and Energy Future” plan; and
