Solidarity with the People of Haiti Day

WHEREAS, the residents of Madison have heard the news of the earthquake that struck the people of Haiti on January 12, 2010, with all of its devastating consequences; and
WHEREAS, residents of Madison are known for their compassion and generosity, especially in responding to natural disasters; and
WHEREAS, some residents of Madison and organizations in Madison such as the Caribbean Association of Madison and the African Association of Madison are taking the lead in showing that compassion by organizing fundraising events to assist the distressed people of Haiti;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Mayor and Common Council of the City of Madison, Wisconsin, do hereby commend the efforts of all our fellow residents in responding to the disaster in Haiti; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED do hereby proclaim Tuesday, February 2, 2010, Solidarity with the People of Haiti Day in the City of Madison.
