Funding is included in the "Municipal Art Fund" project in the 2007 adopted Capital Budget for the Department of Planning and Community and Economic Development.

Body
WHEREAS, the Common Council adopted Resolution, I.D. 30476 on March 19, 2002 adopting the Public Art Framework and Field Guide for Madison, Wisconsin and recommendations contained in the framework; and

WHEREAS the Framework recommends the Madison Arts Commission focus on City capital projects as a primary way to introduce public art into the life of the City; and

WHEREAS the Common Council adopted Resolution, ID 05565, on March 21, 2007 approving the construction of the Cypress Spray Park; and

WHEREAS many components of the spray park project could be enhanced or modified as part of a public art feature; and

WHEREAS, The Madison Arts Commission, whose mission it is to make the arts an essential part of the lives of all of Madison's citizens, identified Cypress Spray Park as a site for the placement of art work at their October 24, 2006 meeting; and

WHEREAS, this project is identified as a potential expenditure from the Municipal Art Fund in the 2007 Capital Budget; and

WHEREAS, the $10,000 will be all-inclusive, covering artists' fees, materials and fabrication costs, installation, insurance, travel, artist residencies and presentations, and other related expenses; and

WHEREAS, the Madison Arts Commission issued a request for qualifications on April 11, 2007 inviting artists to submit qualifications and a statement of interest in creating art work for the Cypress Spray Park, resulting in the selection of three qualified artists for consideration; and
