Proclamation designating April 23 through April 29, 2006 as Arbor Week 2006.
Body
WHEAREAS, The City of Madison has been a Tree City USA for 17 years; and
WHEREAS, Healthy trees provide energy savings, stormwater runoff reduction, and higher property values; and
WHEREAS, Tree-lined business and retail districts encourage patrons to linger and shop longer; and
WHEREAS, The trees in our community clean the air we breathe, fight pollution, help with energy conservation, and are a vital part of our urban ecosystems; and
WHEREAS, Trees beautify our Parks, Conservation Areas, and the streetscapes in our neighborhoods and business districts, and make a tremendous contribution to the quality of life in our city; and
WHEREAS, The trees in our community clean the air we breathe, fight pollution, and are a vital part of our city's infrastructure; and
WHEREAS, The continued planting and maintenance of trees in our city shall provide the same benefits for the present and future citizens of Madison;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED,
That the Mayor of the City of Madison, Wisconsin, does hereby proclaim the week of April 23th thru April 29th, 2006 as
ARBOR WEEK
in the City of Madison, and urges everyone able to observe this week to plant trees, and to participate in programs that the sponsors of Arbor Week may provide.
