Title

Honoring the Spartan players, coaches and fans of the Division 1 state champion Madison Memorial Basketball Team.

Body

WHEREAS, James Madison Memorial High School Spartans won their second straight Big Eight title and beat Milwaukee Vincent in the WIAA Division 1 final for their first state championship, competing in the finals for their second straight year; and

 

WHEREAS, several individual honors were earned by members of the team, including:

 

Senior Wesley Matthews, who was the Associated Press state Player of the Year, the Big Eight Conference Player of the Year for the second straight year, and who was named to the conference's first team for the third straight year;

 

Senior Kori Vernon, a Big Eight Conference second team performer last year, who was also named to the first team; and

 

Coach Steve Collins, who was named Big Eight Conference Coach of the Year for the second straight year;

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Mayor and the Madison Common Council joins all residents of Madison in thanking the Spartans who worked so hard for this outstanding accomplishment and well deserved honor.
