Fiscal Note
The proposed resolution adopts a Relocation Order for the acquisition of land interests required for the construction of safety improvements at the intersection of S. Whitney Way and Odana Road. The City of Madison Common Council adopted RES-22-00716 (Legistar 73519) on October 11, 2022 which authorized the Mayor and City Clerk to execute an agreement with the State of Wisconsin Department of Transportation for the design and construction of safety improvements at the intersection of S. Whitney Way and Odana Road. The estimated cost of the easement acquisitions is $14,200. Funding is available within Traffic Engineering's Safe Streets Madison capital program (Munis 14832-45-200). No additional appropriation is required.

WHEREAS, City of Madison Traffic Engineering, in coordination with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT), are proposing safety improvements to the S. Whitney Way and Odana Road intersection. The safety improvements include converting the traffic signals to monotubes with signal heads using retroreflective backplates over each traffic lane, high visibility crosswalks, audible pedestrian push buttons, increased pedestrian storage on the north and east legs, and new curb ramps that meet ADA requirements. Additional street lighting and the expansion of the north leg’s median to increase the pedestrian refuge and remove the unnecessary third receiving lane is also proposed; and,
WHEREAS, the project was awarded a grant under WisDOT’s Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP) that will be responsible for 90% of the participating design and construction costs, and the City is resp...
