The Mendota Yacht Club (Club) will be hosting the 2025 National MC-Scow Regatta on Lake Mendota (“Event”) in 2025. The Event is a national-level competition, scheduled to take place from September 17 through September 20, 2025. The Event will attract tourism and economic development to the City and the City wishes to extend its support of the Event. Following the success of the 2023 E-Scow National Regatta, the Club desires to stage the Event, in part, within Marshall Park, which use would include the temporary closure of the boat launch to the public and the exclusive use of certain portions of the Park.
A Boat Launch Closure and Use Agreement that is authorized by the Board of Park Commissioners and Common Council is required to accommodate the event. Due to a coordination issue, it is necessary to utilize a non-standard process to authorize the agreement. As such, on September 2, 2025, under suspension of the rules and contingent upon approval of the agreement by the Board of Park Commissioners, Common Council approved Legislative File ID 89619 Authorizing the Mayor and the City Clerk to enter into an agreement with the Mendota Yacht Club for the use and closure of the Marshall Park boat launch and surrounding area from September 17, 2025 through September 20, 2025.
If approved by the Board of Park Commissioners, staff will route the agreement through the proper approval channels for signatures to be effective for the event.
