Title

Informational Update on an Overnight Event Hosted by the Madison Mallards at Warner Park Ballpark (District 12)

Body

The Madison Mallards are seeking permission from the Parks Superintendent to host two “Scout Nights” at the Warner Park Ballpark. These events will allow Scouts and Girl Scouts to camp out at the ballpark, while Madison Mallards staff will remain on site for the duration of the event. The event for Scouts would be hosted on June 19 and the event for Girl Scouts on August 1. Expected attendance would be around 200 each night. This opportunity would be made available to all Scout and Girl Scout groups in the area through their respective district offices. The event would not be open to the general public.

The Parks Superintendent, under MGO 8.21 <https://library.municode.com/wi/madison/codes/code_of_ordinances?nodeId=COORMAWIVOICH1--10_CH8PUPR_8.21PUPABECLDUCEHO> is granted authority to approve overnight recreational activities. The contract with the Madison Mallards grants the Mallards authority to schedule events at the ballpark for events when not in use for baseball or softball games. The original agreement was adopted via RES-10-00849 (Legistar #20096) on October 19, 2010. The first amendment to the agreement was adopted via RES-17-00254 (Legistar #46225) on March 21, 2017. The second amendment to the agreement was adopted via RES-20-00766 (Legistar #61885) on November 17, 2020. The third amendment to the agreement was adopted via RES-24-00182 (Legistar #81961).

The Parks Division is providing this informational update to the Board of Park Commissioners as this is one of the first overnight activities at parks to be approved in recent history and would like the opportunity for feedback or discussion on this event.
