Commending Michael D. O’Brien, Sewer Machine Operator 3 of the City Engineering Division, upon his retirement after nearly 31 years of dedicated service to the City of Madison.
Body
WHEREAS, on January 13, 1986 Mike began work for the City of Madison as a Fleet Tire Technician in the Fleet Services Division; and
WHEREAS, Mike joined the Engineering Division as a Sewer Machine Operator 1 on July 8, 2001 and was promoted to his current position of Sewer Machine Operator 3 on August 21, 2011; and
WHEREAS, throughout his career Mike has been actively involved in Laborers’ International Union of North America Local 236 and has been its Business Agent since 1995; and
WHEREAS, under Mike’s leadership LIUNA Local 236 with the City of Madison as its partner successfully navigated the unchartered waters of “Act 10” to preserve a participatory workplace; and
WHEREAS, Mike will retire from the City of Madison Engineering Division on January 6, 2017; and
WHEREAS, Mike will be greatly missed by his colleagues in city government;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Mayor and City Engineer commend Mike O’Brien, Sewer Machine Operator 3, on his retirement from the City of Madison after nearly 31 years of exemplary City service and thank him for his dedicated service to the City of Madison, its citizens and partners; and
BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the Mayor, Common Council, City Engineer and entire Engineering Division wish Mike a healthy and enjoyable retirement with his family.
