Title
Seeking Common Council approval of Art in Public Places funding award to the Madison Public Library Foundation, Inc on behalf of the Monroe Street Library as recommended by the Madison Arts Commission.
Body
WHEREAS, the Common Council adopted Resolution ID #30476 on March 19, 2002, adopting the Public Art Framework and Field Guide for Madison, Wisconsin and recommendations contained in the framework; and
WHEREAS, the Public Art Framework and Field Guide recommends the Madison Arts Commission create opportunities for community partnerships for Art in City-Building; and
WHEREAS, the Madison Arts Commission, whose mission it is to make the arts an essential part of the lives of all of Madison's citizens, re-established the Art in Public Places (AIPP) program at their Wednesday, May 9, 2012, meeting; and
WHEREAS, funding for these projects are identified as potential expenditures in the Municipal Art Fund in the 2015 Capital Budget; and
WHEREAS, at the July 14, 2015 meeting of the Madison Arts Commission, members reviewed the request of the Madison Public Library Foundation, Inc to receive AIPP funding to commission artist Lisa Koch to create a site-specific glass sculptural installation for the back window of the Monroe Street Library; and
WHEREAS, the result of this project will be the creation of a permanent work of art by Lisa Koch that celebrates the unique characteristics of the Monroe Street Neighborhood and the resident’s relationship to the Lake Wingra Watershed; and
WHEREAS, the Madison Arts Commission recommends funding the Madison Public Library Foundation, Inc. at $5,000 for the design and fabrication of a glass art installation by Lisa Koch for the Monroe Street Library; and
