Commending Dr. Kathryn Vedder for her leadership of the Madison Department of Public Health.
Body
WHEREAS, Dr. Kathryn (Kate) Vedder was Director of the Madison Department of Public Health and Health Officer of the City of Madison from May, 2002 until December, 2005; and
 
WHEREAS, Dr. Vedder came into the Department with many new ideas on how to move unification forward, focused discussions in a positive way and began to lay the groundwork for the merger of the Madison Department of Public Health and the Dane County Division of Public Health; and
 
WHEREAS, Dr. Vedder's many years of working at the federal, state and local levels, as well as her work as a Pediatrician provided her with an exceptional understanding of public health issues and the public health system; and
 
WHEREAS, Dr. Vedder provided leadership and vision to the Dane County Health Council and to other groups promoting access to quality health care, especially for those who are underserved; and
 
WHEREAS, Dr. Vedder provided leadership and vision to the Madison Public Health Commission as they transitioned toward the first Joint Board of Health for Madison and Dane County and continued to provide vision and leadership to the Joint Board after they convened; and
 
WHEREAS, Dr. Vedder provided great energy and leadership to Fit City Madison and efforts to promote healthy lifestyles for all residents of Madison and Dane County; and
 
WHEREAS, Dr. Vedder is unfailingly optimistic, exhibits an abundance of grace and style, and possesses a wonderful sense of humor, a great smile and a hearty laugh;
 
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Mayor and the Common Council do hereby offer, on behalf of the City of Madison and her many admirers, great thanks for her public service and appreciation for her leadership of the Madison Department of Public Health.
