Praising Representative Mark Pocan for being ethical and sensible.
Body
WHEREAS, Rep. Mark Pocan has recognized that legislative bodies meeting in the middle of the night are a recipe for trouble and shady dealings; and
WHEREAS, by extension, he has also recognized that meeting in the middle of the night makes the legislative process inaccessible to his constituents and the constituents of all legislators; and
WHEREAS, while not expressed in media coverage (which means nothing), Rep. Pocan's idea also recognizes that the human body can take only so much abuse, and legislative bodies meeting until all hours of the night abuses the folks who are charged to serve the public; and
WHEREAS, the public interest is not well served by a grumpy and tired legislative body;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED the Madison Common Council hereby expresses its praise and appreciation to Representative Mark Pocan for his good common sense approach to the legislative process.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Madison Common Council exempts itself from good common sense until further notice.
BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution shall be sent to Rep. Mark Pocan and to the Republicans in the Wisconsin State Legislature, thereby assuring that a midnight limit will be imposed, since they seem to always pass items the Madison Common Council opposes and vice versa.
