The proposed resolution authorizes amending the Police Department budget to accept an additional $2,000 for a Wisconsin Department of Transportation Motorcycle Enforcement Highway Safety grant. The grant will cover overtime for enforcement of motorcycle and vehicular laws. The City will meet the 25% match requirement through benefits associated with the overtime. These matching costs will be absorbed in MPD's existing operating budget.

WHEREAS, on May 3, 2016, the Common Council approved a resolution (RES-16- 00332) to accept $4,000 of a Wisconsin Department of Transportation-Bureau of Transportation Safety pass-through grant to the Dane County Sheriff’s Office; and
WHEREAS, the Dane County Sheriff’s Office now has offered MPD an additional $2,000 of this Motorcycle Enforcement Highway Safety Project grant for overtime motorcycle deployments to enhance enforcement of motorcycle and vehicular laws; and
WHEREAS, required matching funds of 25% are met through MPD fringe benefits paid for grant-funded overtime and associated in-kind administrative expenses.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Finance Director and the Police Department are authorized to adjust existing segregated accounts as required for the administration of these additional grant funds.
