Title

Approving Request from City of Madison Engineering to Install and Maintain Outdoor Warning Sirens in Door Creek and North Star Parks, and to Relocate Existing Siren from within Brittingham Park (District 3, District 13, District 16)

Body

The City of Madison works directly with Dane County Emergency Management and Emergency Communications System (DCEM consultant) to ensure appropriate coverage of the Dane County Outdoor Warning Siren coverage within the City of Madison.  Based on recent and anticipated future development in the area of the existing warning siren located at S. Sprecher and Wyalusing requires some additional infill for full coverage of this area.  The City of Madison Engineering staff is therefore proposing adding sirens to Door Creek Park and North Star Park.  The proposed locations are necessary to adhere to recommended standoff distances from homes and businesses.

In addition, Engineering is proposing relocating a siren from within the W. Washington Ave. right-of-way to a location within the Brittingham Park parking lot.  The proposed relocation of this siren is necessary for an upcoming transportation project of the West Washington Ave. corridor.

Periodic maintenance of the sirens is required.  To accommodate maintenance vehicles, site modifications are needed within the park, including some grading, installation of geogrid, and reinstallation of sod.
